About
Jovany Guerrero is a photographer based in Cleveland, Mississippi. Originally from Elgin, Illinois, Guerrero moved to Mississippi at a young age and grew up there as a first-generation Mexican-American. Currently pursuing a degree in Fine Arts with a major in Photography, studying the processes of film and digital work. Guerrero’s work focuses on street, studio, and portrait photography. His unique perspective is shaped by his commitment to capturing scenes from an everyday viewpoint.
Guerrero’s work has been exhibited at the Walter Anderson Museum of Art, the Juried Student Exhibition, and the Crosstie Jazz Festival . He has received awards for his art, including recognition for a wooden dowel sculpture and his photograph titled “I Am.”
Freelancing since 2017, Guerrero has photographed a variety of events, including sports, portraits, and senior photos, and has also assisted in teaching introductory photography courses, where he helped students with darkroom printing and developing. His upcoming projects include a senior thesis exploring themes of church and creation, along with personal work that delves into the beauty of his culture.
